Kids Valentines Day Crafts

Valentines Day is almost here. Embrace the holiday with a cute, fun craft that you and your little ones can do together. This craft can be a great gift for your little one to take to school and present as a gift for their teacher or even as a gift exchange for their friend. This cute little bear is made entirely from foam heart shapes just for Valentine's Day! It’s so adorable it’s almost unbearable.

What you'll need:
2 large pink foam hearts
2 medium pink foam hearts
1 medium red foam heart
2 small pink foam hearts
White craft glue
1 red sequin
2 small wiggle eyes
Black marker

How to make it:
-Glue the two large pink hearts together with their points overlapping one another. (See photo.)
-Glue the red heart to the center of the two large pink hearts.
-Glue the two medium pink hearts on either side of the red heart, bumps pointing toward each other. (See photo.)
-Glue the two small pink hearts to the bottom large heart, one small heart on each bump. (See photo.)
-Glue a red sequin on as a nose and add two wiggle eyes. Use a black marker to add two small circles for the ears. Let everything dry. (See photo.)

Tips:Add a magnet or a pin to the back if you like.
You can add toes with your marker as well.
Valentine's colors include red, pink, light blue, purple and white as well, choose whatever colors you like!

Bread Dough Clay Ornaments

Bread dough clay has been around for years because it's very easy to make and just as easy to use. You and your kids will have a blast making these ornaments.

Decorate your whole home with festive Christmas crafts! Create homemade cards, your own Christmas ornaments, tasty Christmas recipes, or just snuggle up together with printable Christmas activities.

What you'll need:
5 slices of white bread, crusts removed
1 tablespoon white craft glue
Cooking spray
Bowl
Rolling pin
Cookie cutters
Toothpick
Cooling rack
Glitter glue and paint
String

How to make it:
1. Wad each piece of bread in your hand then place into a mini food processor or blender. Only adults should run these appliances. (See photo.)
2. Process the bread until it turns into crumbs. Pour the crumbs into a bowl.
3. Spray the tablespoon with cooking spray so that the glue will slide out easily.
Fill the tablespoon with glue then pour it into the bread crumbs. (See photo.)
4. Mix the glue and bread crumbs together with your fingers until completely incorporated. Keep working it with your hands and fingers until it feels consistent. (See photo.)
5. Roll out the dough with a rolling pin and cut out ornaments with cookie cutters. (See photo.)
6. Use a toothpick to create a hole near the top of each shape and place the ornaments on a cooling rack to dry. Leave the toothpicks in the holes so that they do not close up and allow to dry overnight. (See photo.)
7. Now you can decorate your ornaments however you like. You can paint them with paint and/or glitter glue, or even decorate them with markers. You can also leave your ornaments plain. (See photo.)
8. Run a piece of string through the hole and tie to create the hanger.

Tips:
1. You can skip the need for the food processor or blender by tearing the bread into pieces and mixing with the glue. The process is much longer, but will achieve the same result.
2. If you have a pasta maker, run your dough through it instead of using the rolling pin!
3. If you are not concerned about the end color results, you do not need to remove the crusts from the bread.

Mouthwatering Cool Carribbean Chicken with Pineapple Salsa

Ingredients:

4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
1 c soy sauce
2/3 c lime juice
6 T brown sugar
3 T honey
20 oz can pineapple tidbits, juices reserved
1/2 of a red bell pepper, diced
1 bunch green onion, thinly sliced
2 Tbs orange juice concentrate
1/3 c shredded coconut

Coconut Jasmine Rice:
2 cups Thai jasmine-scented white rice
2 cups coconut milk
1 3/4 cups water
1 tsp. sugar

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Directions:In a small bowl, combine pineapple through coconut. Set aside in refrigerator.

Combine soy sauce through honey. Add juices drained from pineapple. Place chicken breasts in a nonmetal bowl or Ziploc bag. Pour marinade over chicken and marinade at least 6 hours or up to 24 hours, turning chicken pieces occasionally.

Drain chicken, dispose of marinade. Grill the chicken, over medium heat, 8 minutes on each side, or until temperature reaches 160 degrees. Wrap chicken loosely in foil to rest for 5-10 minutes.

Slice chicken at a diagonal, scoop pineapple salsa on top. Serve along side Coconut rice.

Coconut Rice:
Spray pot with PAM. Place rice, coconut milk, water, and salt in the pot. Place pot on the stove over medium to high heat. Stir well. Add the sugar. Continue to stir occasionally until the coconut milk and water come to a gentle boil.

Once the coconut-water has begun to gently bubble, stop stirring and turn down the heat to medium-low. Place lid askew on the pot, allowing some of the steam to escape. Cook in this way for 15-20 minutes, or until the rice has absorbed all (or nearly all) of the coconut-water.

Now turn off the heat, but leave the pot on the burner. Cover the pot tightly with the lid and allow to rest 10 minutes, or until you are ready to eat. When ready to serve, remove the lid and "fluff" rice with a fork.

Princess Parties for Girls

Okay, so I have not had a chance to see the movie yet. However, due to the large request for Princess Tiana parties we have added princess Tiana girls parties to our wide selection of girls birthday parties. My 10 yr old daughter, who has seen the movie became the head planner and overseer in planning this theme. We hosted our first Princess Tiana party this past weekend. It ended up being a huge success. We combined the pamper me spa party with the princess Tiana theme. We began with mini manicures, pedicures and facials to prepare for the Ball...Each little girl wore plush pink robes & slippers while the birthday girl wore a lovely couture Princess gown. After an afternoon of dancing, games and a take home craft, the girls sat down to eat a feast fit for royalty complete with all the trimmings. Finger sandwhiches, sparkling cider, fresh seasonal fruit and chips. We ended the party by giving each girl a balloon, they closed their eyes made a wish and let the balloon float into the air. The girls cheered and watched their wish float away into the land of fairytales. It was a delight! The mom hugged me before we left and thanked us for making her daughter's 6th birthday a day to remember! At the end of the day...when I think back on the smile's on each little girls face, "I sighed and said wow...I'm invited to a birthday party every weekend." I have the coolest job in the world!

5 Easy ways to "help my child do better in school". For parents here in Atlanta, school is back in session and we are now in full-time mommy mode. Say goodbye to sleeping in, relaxing by the pool, spending your day at the local amusement park or sipping lemonade while trying to stay cool..Summer has come to an end.

Of course the kids are excited the first couple of weeks. Shopping for new clothes, making new friends, seeing their old friends and even meeting their new teachers can be very exciting. However, after a few weeks (for some kids) all of the fluff wears off. We have to put on our boxing gloves to drag our kids out of bed in the morning, bribe our little ones to drink their milk, go on a scavenger hunt through their book bag just to find the homework and so on. We can keep the excitement going throughout the entire year by doing a few simple tricks.

First of all kids love to talk about their day...
1. Make sure you set a designated time aside each day giving them your undivided attention. Turn cell phone on vibrate :)
2.Make a game out of the day such as: they tell you their highs and lows of the day. Celebrate the highs and comfort them in their lows. This will cause your child to want to open up and discuss their feelings in a not so traditional way.
3.One of the key ingredients to a stress free day is organization. Daily help your child organize their homework folders by checking their work and signing any forms that need to be returned back to school. This alleviates the stress of unfinished homework and rushing to sign papers as they jump out of the car the next morning (gives you time to read over what your signing hahaha)
4.Eat dinner together as a family. Test have shown that children that eat at the dinner table in a family atmosphere tend to test better, are less likely to get into trouble and three and half times less likely to abuse prescription drugs and illegal drugs other than marijuana. Eating dinner as a family is also a great way for parents to be involved, monitor activities and friends and be a good role model.
5.Keep an open line of communication with their teacher. For parents who may work long hectic shifts or have very demanding jobs technology has lent us a hand . We can now email the teacher directly or call them. From my own personal experience concerning my children, I leave a message regarding convenient times for my schedule and they work with me. When teachers know that you are involved in the education of your child they tend to develop a better relationship with your child. They will also keep you abreast of any sudden changes in your child's behavior or pattern. When the students knows that the parent and the teacher have a positive relationship he/she is more likely to "do the right thing"!

Every parent wants the best for their child. Sometimes its the little things that go a long way in life.
