Picky Eater Predicament

"Won't touch that!" Nah na na na. Moms are raving about this new Eggo commercial! We have all battled to get our picky eaters to eat healthy foods. Now, I am no expert, but in today's blog I will share some thoughts that I live by and I will also include some tips from the experts. I would also love to hear your tips and tricks for getting your picky eaters to try new foods. My #1 rule - Kids are little people. What I mean by that is one day you may eat 3 bowls of cereal and the next day your not interested at all. Children are the same way, plus their taste buds are still developing and changing regularly. If they don't like it today - try again tomorrow! My 2nd rule is hungry children are more likely to try new things. Try to limit the snacking so that they build up their appetite. The 3rd rule I have integrated into meal time is, "Just 1 Bite". Now, I will be honest, sometimes I do have to fight to get him to try the first bite, but once he tries it he will usually eat more. My last rule is don't limit your kid's food choices to what you like. Buffets are a great place to get your child to try new items that may not be on your grocery list. Once you see that he likes those yucky Lima beans you can add them to your grocery list just for him. Now a few tips from the experts: adding new foods with well liked foods is a good strategy. Set an example by eating healthy foods in front of them and let them sample from your plate. As we all know, kids firmly believe whatever you have is better than whatever they have! Lastly, don't make your child "clean their plate" they know when they are full, forcing them will create negative reactions and may cause discomfort. Well, I hope these tips help you face your picky eater challenges. I look forward to hearing your tips.
